A former television news anchor has plead guilty to murdering her 80-year-old mother. As reported by the New York Post, the tragic incident occurred on Halloween last year.
Angelynn Mock, who is known as Angie, plead guilty to the charge of first-degree murder. The plea deal was announced by the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office.
Mock had worked as a morning news anchor at St. Louis' KTVI station between 2011 and 2015. She had also worked at Oklahoma City's KOKH. However, at the time of the tragic murder, she was working at a data management software company.
The Wichita Police Department had responded to Mock's home, which she shared with her mother, Anita Avers, and her stepfather, Barry Avers, on the night of October 31, 2025. There, they found Avers with "multiple stab wounds".
At the time, Mock was also found outside her home with cut wounds on her hands. She was taken into custody following the incident. Officers had found several kitchen knives as well as a cheese grater splayed out on a pillow next to the crime scene.
"All the utensils had blood on them," per the court documents. "The top sheet had at least 12 holes in the top half of the sheet, consistent with those caused by a knife."

The Anchor Made Some Troubling Claims After the Murder
During the investigation, the former news anchor had made some troubling claims. She had said several times that she believed her mother was the devil, and that she had killed her to "save herself".
She was also seen to be talking to herself when police had arrived on the scene. One comment she reportedly made was, "I'd kill that bitch to have my mom any day. I don't even know who she is anymore... I know, I believe she's the devil."
Per her stepfather, she was apparently on medication following being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. He also said that she had been suffering from delusions and depression prior to the tragic murder.
Under her plea deal, she could face up to life in prison. It is unclear how much her mental state may or may not affect proceedings.
