Former ‘Today’ Show Star Opens up About Late Husband’s Infidelity

The former 'Today' star revealed that he had lied to her about his infidelity, and she had believed him. She described it as "brutal."

Former Today star Kathie Lee Gifford has opened up about her late husband's infidelity. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, she said that she does not consider it an "affair."

Her husband, former New York Giants star Frank Gifford, was exposed for infidelity in 1997. A tabloid had reported he cheated with a flight attendant. Kathie Lee had originally denied what had happened, but later evidence proved it to be true.

She said on an episode of the Hang Out With Sean Hannity podcast, "People call it an affair. No, an affair is not a tryst at a hotel one time. At all." She said that the media coverage was "horrible."

When Hannity said the whole situation was brutal, the former Today star said, "Not as brutal as what he did to me, crushing me."

But, despite everything, she explained that she forgave him. "He's my hero, and it took a long, long time for me to gain trust again. But you know what I did? The Bible says, 'Be anxious for nothing.'"

The Former 'Today' Show Star Said She Never Left Him

Of course, the most common conclusion when unfaithfulness rears its ugly head in a relationship is a pretty swift split. But that wasn't the case for Kathie Lee Gifford. She said that she never threatened divorce, nor did she leave her home before her reconciliation with the New York Giants star.

"I thought we had a great marriage," she lamented. "Great marriage, great love life. I don't like to call it a sex life—sex is different than making love. And we had a great love life."

At the time, she said that she knew in her heart that he had cheated, because he was usually a punctual man—something that had slipped when he was being disloyal.

She said that after what happened, they were never the same with each other. But, she said she believed him when he said to her the allegation was false.

"I believed my husband," the former Today star recounted. "And he should have never let me say publicly [that it was false]. That's another betrayal."
