Recovery from a torn bicep and the surgery that will follow will ensure that Hurst won't be able to get back to filming anytime soon. Unfortunately, that means Amazon will now begin recasting the role in a bid to speed up production.

"This is a heartbreaking development for Hurst, who underwent a physical transformation after getting the role, putting on 40 pounds of muscle, and working hard for months on the Vancouver set filming the physically demanding role until getting hurt performing his duties," Deadline reports.

Deadline then continued by noting that full recovery from a torn bicep, including surgery, is approximately 4-6 months. However, it can take up to a year before you regain full strength in the arm. Due to that timeframe and the physicality the role of Kratos entails, Amazon was forced to make a tough decision.

"According to sources, while Hurst's full recovery is a priority, the period required for it was longer than the production shooting schedule could accommodate, leading to the difficult decision to recast the role," Deadline continued.

Ryan Hurst Will Now Put His Career on Hold

Unfortunately for Hurst, his injury now means that he will likely need to put his career on hold. It's going to be hard for him to land roles while dealing with his recovery and the likely rehab that will need to take place. As such, it could be a while before we see him back on our screens.

Fortunately for Hurst, he does has something to look forward to. The former Sons of Anarchy star plays the mentor in The Odyssey, which recently hit cinemas. At least with the movie set to draw sizeable interest, both at the cinema and eventually via streaming, Hurst will remain in the audience's mind.

Nevertheless, missing out on the role of Kratos will certainly be a blow. Now we'll never know if the show would have bee a hit with Hurst leading the way.
