Former Pro Golfer Was Pronounced Dead Twice

The golf pro revealed that due to a health emergency, he was hospitalized. And because of it, he died twice - and he's still recovering now.

When doctors announce that someone's died, it's something they are pretty sure about. I mean, they have to check the vitals - heart rate, that sort of thing, right?

But it's a pretty common trope in movies and TV that sometimes their assumptions aren't exactly right. And it's something that happens every so often - sometimes leading to some pretty scary times where someone wakes up in a morgue.

All in all, though, it's a pretty darn rare thing for them to get it wrong. But they did in the case of former golf pro Jim McLean.

As reported by People, the 76-year-old revealed some pretty scary health complications he had. He explained his situation in an open letter posted to social media on June 27.

"To all my friends: I'm sorry I have not gotten back to you," he wrote in screenshots from his iPhone's Notes app. "Here is the brief story. I arrived in an ambulance on May 26."

Here's the scary part, "I was pronounced dead twice - from diverticulitis." He went on to explain why he never ended up chatting to his friends - "I had my phone off for over 3 weeks - Then I answered a few texts," the golf pro wrote.

The Golf Pro Thanked Friends and Family

He thanked his friends and family who were there to be by his side. "From the beginning my two boys flew down to be with me, also a few close friends, my brother Tom stayed 11 days. Other friends flew in to be at bedside," McLean explained.

He went on to especially thank his wife, Amparo. "[She] has been with me 24/7, she has been my rock. She sleeps in a chair, in the hospital, next to me," he explained.

In the caption of the post, he said he "will be transferring to PT hospital by the end of next week."

Diverticulitis refers to an issue with the colon - the golf pro described it himself as "where the colon is punctured." He was specifically referring to quite a severe case of it.

In any case, we're glad he ended up being revived twice. We hope he recovers soon - here's to many more years for him!
