Tre' Johnson has died at the age of 54. The former NFL Pro Bowl guard's passing came unexpectedly while on a trip with his family.

"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my husband, Tre' Johnson, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday February 15, 2026, during a brief family trip,"
Tre's wife, Irene, wrote in a statement on Facebook. "His four children, Chloe, EJ, EZ and Eden, extended family, friends, and I are devastated and in shock."According to TMZ, Johnson had been dealing with health issues before his death. However, the actual cause of his passing has not yet been revealed. During her statement, Irene paid tribute to Tre's "tremendous" NFL career.
"Many of you know Tre' most from his tremendous NFL football career," She wrote. "He was offensive guard who played eight incredible seasons primarily for the Washington Redskins (1994-2001) before he went to the Cleveland Browns in 2001. He was a standout at Temple University...He loved the game and prided himself on his tremendous knowledge of it."
The Washington Commanders also released a short statement upon learning of their former star's death.
"We're heartbroken to learn of the loss of former Washington All-Pro guard Tre' Johnson," the team posted on X.
Tre' Johnson Had an Impressive Football Career
Tre' was drafted into the NFL with the 31st overall pick in the 1994 draft. He enjoyed two spells with Washington, the first a seven-season tenure, and the second was his final season in the league. He had one year with the Cleveland Browns.
In total, Tre' suited up for 93 regular-season games. He started 72 of them. Tre' also competed in the postseason during 1999, playing twice for Washington. He earned his one Pro Bowl appearance during that season, too.
Before entering the NFL, he played for Temple University, doing enough to be a standout member of the roster, thus earning his path into the NFL. Irene Johnson shared some information regarding Tre's post-playing career.
"After retirement, he also found his second career passion, education. He worked as a History Teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda Maryland, where he was beloved by the young male students he mentored and the faculty. His recent battles with health issues forced him to take a leave of absence."
There is currently no information regarding Tre's impending funeral. Those details will likely remain with family and close friends, as they navigate this difficult time.
