Former New York Knicks star JR Smith was arrested on a charge of family violence on Tuesday in Texas, according to Hunt County jail records.

Smith, a two-time NBA champion with the Cavaliers and Lakers, was arrested on one charge of assault causing bodily injury and family violence.
He is still being held at the Hunt County Detention Center, according to TMZ, and records show that no bond has been set.
Smith, a former Sixth Man of the Year, played 16 seasons in the association. The New Jersey native was drafted 18th overall in the 2004 NBA draft and evolved into one of the best bench role players in NBA history.
Known best for his three-point shooting and rim-rocking dunks, Smith amassed over 12,000 career points.
He set an NBA record for most three-pointers attempted in a single game (22) in 2014. Smith also holds the record for most three-pointers made in a playoff game in Cavaliers history.
Game 3 of that Finals between the Lakers and Heat on October 4, 2020, was the last time Smith played in an NBA game
He has yet to formally announce his NBA retirement.
Legal Troubles Continue For JR Smith
Smith has had a few run-ins with the law dating back to 2007.
The former NBA star was arrested in 2012 for failing to appear in court after being cited for illegally operating a motor scooter.
In 2007, Smith was involved in a car accident that killed his friend and passenger Andre Bell.
Smith was driving his SUV along with Bell and another friend when the accident happened. According to police reports, the NBA star was speeding and didn't stop at a stop sign.
Smith left the crash with minor bruises and scars. Bell suffered head trauma and remained in critical condition until he died two days later.
"It's been unbearable to deal with," Smith said to the court. "I am deeply sorry. I never intended for this to happen. It tears me up that it went down like that."
The former Denver Nuggets star was sentenced to 90 days in jail. However, Municipal Judge Debra J. Gelson suspended 60 days of the term, provided Smith completed 500 hours of community service.
