In a tragic turn of events, former Miss North Carolina, Carrie Everett, has died at just 22. As reported by the New York Post, this comes after she fought a tragic battle with a rare and aggressive cancer.
Her family released a statement confirming her death. "The cries of her heart became songs that stirred the spirits of everyone who had the pleasure of hearing her sing. She lived a full life, and with her last words, on stage and in life, she proclaimed the goodness of God. Her impact on the world is undeniable," they wrote.
Carrie Everett was the 2024 Miss North Carolina. She won the prestigious award whilst still being a full-time student at North Carolina Central University. Everett was also the first student of a historically black college to be crowned Miss North Carolina.
She was tragically diagnosed with a rare form of gastric cancer, metastatic signet ring cell carcinoma, in summer 2025. At the time, she said "This is happening for a reason... and God has allowed me to use my voice to give a voice to others," Everett preached at the time. She was a devout Christian.

Her College Also Posted A Statement About Her Tragic Passing from Cancer
Her college, the North Carolina Central University, also released a statement about her tragic passing. The chancellor of the college, Karrie Dixon, confirmed the statement to her college community.
"It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of Ms. Carrie Everett... On Sunday, April 5, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer," the statement read. "Carrie selected NCCU because of the university's music program - she enjoyed singing gospel music - and regularly graced NCCU occasions with her beautiful singing voice."
The statement also commended her philanthropic work for making pageantry more accessible. "Her work to recruit yougn women who may not consider pageants due to the expensive entry fees and wardrobes was commendable."
Carrie Everett was studying music at North Carolina Central University. She was set to graduate in 2027.
What a tragic loss. May she rest in peace.
