Former Disney Star Reveals Ordeal With "Life-Altering Brain Injury"

The former Disney star went into detail about her brain injury, explaining that it took a "fringe" treatment to get her "back online".

Debbie Ryan has opened up about a "life-altering brain injury" following years of migraines. She is most well known for starring on the Disney show Suite Life on Deck.

She opened up in an interview on Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals. There, she explained the brain injury happened "a few years ago", per Variety. "I was out of commission for like six months, and I went to this neurological rehab for like six months."

She explained that the injury itself involved a period of "sustained shaking" which lasted "over a minute". The ordeal itself left her with a "pre-incident Debby" and a "post-incident Debby".

In the end, it was a "fringe science treatment" that ended up helping her - if only somewhat. She lamented, "There are some things that just did not come back".

The brain injury ordeal itself came after years of "hellish" migraines. "Quite often the world is really loud and too bright," she explained. The self-professed "migraine warrior" added "after the fifth concussion, the brain injury made things significantly worse."

"Quite often I can see better and think better with my eyes closed," the former Disney star explained about her condition. "The visual data I am taking in can be so distracting and so loud - the migraines were significantly worsened by that."

"If there is a thing that can make things really singular, I like that. I feel really fortunate that I have an amazing team of people around me who sort of reminded me who I am and was and also held a lot of space for that to change, potentially permanently, and love me through that."

The Former Disney Star Also Explained Her "Last Meal"

On a lighter note, the interview also went into detail about the former Disney star's favorite foods. The format of Last Meals is that a celebrity is brought in and served their ideal last meal by host, Josh Scherer.

And the interview itself features four whole courses! But she specifically mentioned some from her time in Ohio, per MSN. These include:

  • Crispy rice from Comune
  • Bone marrow from Speck
  • Crudo from Gene's
  • Black Cap Hot Sauce
