Early reports indicated that Lacy, 24, may have taken his own life, but his cause of death was unconfirmed at the time. According to a report by People, the Harris County Sheriff's Office told the outlet that Lacy 'suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.'
Officers reportedly found the former LSU Receiver dead at around 11:35 PM on Saturday after he crashed his car near downtown Houston. Earlier in the night, at around 11 PM, officers responded to a weapons disturbance call. A female family member reportedly explained that she had a verbal altercation with Lacy. He allegedly fired a gun at the ground before leaving the building.
Authorities quickly tracked Lacy down in his car and tried to pull him over in a traffic stop. Instead, he reportedly led them on a pursuit. Lacy's vehicle crashed, and the Harris County sheriff's office believes he shot himself before that happened. Authorities told People, "Preliminary information indicates that Lacy shot himself during the pursuit and prior to the vehicle crashing." Dash and body cams both confirm that no shots were fired by Lacy or police after the vehicle stopped.
Kyren Lacy Was Due To Face A Jury For Negligent Homicide
Back in January, Lacy was wanted for negligent homicide after authorities connected him with an alleged hit and run on December 17. He was reportedly driving at high speeds and illegally passing other drivers. Police say that a pickup truck in the opposing lane "braked and swerved" to avoid a head-on collision. A Kia Cadenza behind the truck also took evasive action to dodge Lacy's Charger. The driver crossed the center line and hit a Kia Sorrento head-on.
Lacy reportedly drove around the crash scene without stopping to help or contact Emergency Services. He did not report his involvement in the crash. One person died, and two were injured in the incident.
Per People, Kyren Lacy was due to stand before a grand Jury regarding his involvement in the December incident just two days after he shot himself.
