Rickey is expected to be okay, following the quick medical attention he received.
"It's unclear exactly what led up to the violent incident, but sources tell us Thenarse had been in the middle of a love triangle involving his girlfriend and the father of her child," TMZ reported. "... which seems to have come to a head last week."
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. However, according to the police, two people, a man and a woman, were seen fleeing the scene in a black SUV. The investigation regarding the events leading up to Rickey's shooting and who was involved is still ongoing.
Rickey Thenarse Played Five Years at Nebraska
Rickey spent five years playing for the Nebraska Cornhuskers between the 2006 and 2010 seasons. As a freshman, when suited up for 14 games, I registered 9 total tackles and one defensive interception. As a sophomore, Rickey put up considerably better numbers, despite playing two fewer games.
The 6-foot Los Angeles native put up a total of 28 tackles in 12 games, while also forcing two fumbles. That season was arguably the best of his collegiate career, at least from a statistical standpoint.
In 2009, Rickey was medically redshirted after suffering an injury four games into the season.
"Thenarse played in the first four games of the season before being injured against Louisiana-Lafayette. He made 11 tackles before the injury, including three solo stops," Nebraska's team site notes. "Thenarse tied his career-high with eight tackles against Florida Atlantic and had two stops against Arkansas State. He had a two-yard TFL against Florida Atlantic."
Rickey returned in 2010 for his final collegiate season, recording 34 tackles in 10 games, along with one interception.
Rickey Thenarse Spent Little Time in the NFL
After college, Rickey went undrafted in 2011. He ultimately signed with the Seattle Seahawks, appearing in three preseason games for the team and participating in their preseason training camp. He recorded one tackle during those three preseason games.
Ultimately, Rickey was cut during the team's final round of roster cuts. He didn't return to the professional world of football after that.
Hopefully, he can make a full recovery in the coming months.
