"She suspects he may have been self-medicating following his diagnosis," TMZ noted of Garrett's mother.
Garrett played the role of Plug in How To Eat Fried Worms, which was released back in 2006. The movie scooped an award at the 2007 Young Artists Awards, including Best Young Ensemble in a Feature Film.
According to IMDB, Garrett also appeared in the 2004 movie, Barney's Colorful World, Live! Those are the only two credits to his name. However, TMZ has also noted that before moving onto the big screen, Garrett started out in theater productions. He held roles in multiple classics, including Aladdin And His Magical Lamp, The Wizard Of Oz and Grease.
It remains to be seen whether Garrett's cause of death is related to his Shingles diagnosis. TMZ noted that fewer than 100 people die from the painful rash each year. It's too early to assume that most of those deaths are linked to immunocompromised patients and the elderly.
Blake Garrett Recalled Learning a BMX Trick on Set

"There was one scene where we were riding on a gravel road and got to slide to a stop. The guys who could ride worked on that scene," Garrett said. "They had a camera on the ground, and in one scene I slid and gravel hit the camera. They really liked that shot, and that's the one they used in the movie."
