I thought we had it bad enough with concerts being plagued by ticket scalpers. Now, they're after the DMV. But why?

Recently, Kid Rock met up with Donald Trump to sign an executive order that will (hopefully) help in the battle against ticket scalpers and the awful Ticketmaster monopoly. Well, it turns out the executive order has scared them, and they've moved onto the damn DMV.
As if the DMV wasn't depressing enough. Now ticket scalpers are involved.
For years, now the American government has been talking on about Real ID. Well, it's become very real very quick, as everyone needs one by May 7. This has led to an incredible influx across the nation as people have flocked to their local DMV to get their Real ID.
Noticing the inflating waiting times, malicious scammers have gathered to enact their next plan. To sell DMV appointments to people desperate to get their Real ID. And they're going for $250.
That's a lot of money to give to someone just for a DMV appointment, but if you need your ID, then you need it. I mean, Americans were given near enough 5 years to get it sorted. Oklahoma was the final state to get its systems ready for the Real ID process back in 2020.
Although since then, we've had existential terrors hanging over us every waking moment. So Real ID would have been at the bottom of anyone's to-do list.
Please, Don't Buy Scalped DMV Tickets, You May Get Turned Away
As tempting as it is, however, to purchase a scalped DMV ticket, I'd advise against it.
Per CBS, the authorities in Miami-Dade have not only recognized this problem, but are trying to criminalize the practice of selling DMV appointments.
In a statement, tax collector Dariel Fernandez said, "We know who they are and how they operate. We will not accept any appointment obtained through system abuse. Our office is committed to ensuring that all residents have fair and equal access to services without interference from those seeking to exploit the system."
So although you may need your appointment, I'd hate for you to dish out $250 just to be turned away. Then you'll never get your appointment in time for when you need it.
