A high school football player is dead after a car crash. He was just one month away from making his first appearance as a college football player.

Caleb Metcalf, formerly of Michigan's Flushing High School Raiders, was pronounced dead following a single-car crash in his hometown.
Per a report from ABC 12, Metcalf was riding in a car with four other passengers on Sunday (August 2). The driver veered off the road and penetrated through the wall of a nearby home.

Flushing Community Schools confirmed Metcalf's passing in a
social media post on Tuesday (August 4). Although Caleb was a star athlete for the school for four years, Superintendent Matt Shanafelt spoke more about the person that he was."Caleb was a tremendous young man, a humble and quiet leader, a talented and hardworking student-athlete with a bright future, and a kind, sweet, and loving son, brother, and friend to so many," said Shanafelt in the statement. "His smile was contagious; he loved life, and he was a bright light in the lives of so many. Our hearts go out to Caleb's family, friends, classmates, coaches, teachers, and all who know and love him."
None of the other passengers were injured in the crash. No details have been released about whether the driver was under the influence at the time of the accident.
Metcalf had signed to play football at Lawrence Tech University in Southfield. He was set to make his debut this fall. Following his passing, Blue Devils head coach Oscar Olejniczak described Metcalf as a person who "got along with everybody.
"Caleb was one of those guys that, to be very honest, I know it sounds cliché, but everybody liked. He got along with everybody," Olejniczak said. "It didn't matter who you were. He could get along with you. I actually was a big part of that recruitment even as the head coach. I got to know him very, very well. He was looking at possibly studying biomedical engineering or something in the sciences. He loved his mother and his siblings very, very much."
