What Led to the Incident at the Storage Unit?

As CBS12 reports, the shooting took place just after 10 a.m. at a Public Storage location in Palm Bay, Florida, located on Babcock Street, just north of Palm Bay Road.

According to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the storage facility manager was inspecting the premises when she found two women sleeping inside a unit. She then told the women they could not sleep there and needed to leave.

That's when one of the women, who had just rented the storage unit, fired two shots at the manager. Ivey said one of the shots struck the manager.

The victim fled the scene to seek cover while the two women left the area.

In an update posted on Facebook, Ivey said, "The manager is going to survive. The gunshot was not lethal."

What Happened to the Shooter?

Investigators identified Kandice Jo Pierce as the alleged shooter. According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, detectives had to locate Pierce's companion to determine which one of them had the gun.

In an update shared by the sheriff's office on Saturday night, Pierce was taken into custody without incident by Palm Bay police near the storage facility.

Pierce already had an outstanding warrant for her arrest in an unrelated case. She was charged with arson. Investigators were also working with the State Attorney's Office to finalize another warrant. It charged Pierce with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the shooting at the storage unit.

Ivey thanked the community for their assistance in the case. He also expressed gratitude to the Palm Bay police for taking Pierce into custody. Court records show that she was booked into the Brevard County Jail for second-degree arson, shooting into a building, and first-degree premeditated murder.
