According to multiple reports, a teacher, Chrishawn Nicholson, 25, working at Miami Gardens school, hit a student around the face with a ruler in November 2024. Nicholson now faces one count of child abuse following the incident.

News 7 Miami reports that the child's mother was notified of her son's injury on November 19th. However, Nicholson allegedly explained that the child hurt himself with a pencil.

The child gave a different explanation for his wound, which required several stitches, on the way to the emergency room. The mother, who remains anonymous, explained that her son told her that the teacher hit him with a ruler.

"This was a gash. This wasn't just a hit. This wasn't just a minor cut you can put a Band-Aid on. This was a deep cut that required him to get stitches," she said. The mother also explained, "It's scary because you send your child to school for eight hours a day thinking that your child is in good hands."

The mother reportedly tried to get answers from the school for a fortnight before escalating the incident with the police.

Once The Florida Department Of Children And Families Were Involved, The Story Changed.

According to an updated report by News 7 Miami, the victim explained they were struck with a ruler and then demonstrated how they got hit. A Prosecutor also says there is a video where Nicholson admits, "I did pop him."

Nicholson was in court last week, where her attorney pleaded with the judge not to revoke his client's teaching license.

"This is a very minor hiccup or confusion, that I don't believe that she should be strayed away from being able to work with children. I'm not going to tell her that she can't work in her profession because this could be an isolated incident," her attorney said.

The mother also had some choice words for Nicholson: "No matter how frustrated you are, you shouldn't take it out on that child. It could've been his eye. It was so close to his eye. Then, he would've been blind for the rest of his life."

According to People, Nicholson has since been warned to stay away from the child.
