Florida Principal Suspended Over "Inappropriate and Unprofessional" Music Lyric in Yearbook

The lyric was from a song that features mentions of not safe for work actions. And it looks like the principal isn't getting her job back.

A Florida principal has been suspended over an "inappropriate and unprofessional" music lyric apparently attributed to her in a yearbook. The former principal of the K-8 Trout Creek Academy in St Johns County apparently wrote a lyric from rapper Fetty Wap, according to the New York Post.

The lyric itself is not inappropriate. However, it comes from Fetty Wap's 2015 hit "Trap Queen", which features lyrics about drug dealing and prostitution. In case you haven't heard it, such lyrics include:

"Man, I swear I love her, how she work the d--n pole / Hit the strip club, we be lettin' bands go"

And...

"And I get high with my baby (My baby) / I just left the mall, I'm gettin' fly with my baby, yeah"

So, pretty safe to say that that song is not appropriate for kids. But, the apparent quote from the yearbook itself reads,

"Everybody hatin', we just call them fans though! - Mrs. O'Connell."

But it turns out that the principal may not have even put that in there herself. According to the school's yearbook teacher, the quote wasn't even present in the original copy.

"Katherine O'Connell was not aware that quote was going to be used in the 2025-2026 school yearbook. Ms. O'Connell wasn't aware that quote was used until the yearbooks arrived."

"The quote may not have been there. When Ms. O'Connell reviewed it with me, she mentioned her quote was not there. I mentioned it to the students who must have then put it in."

Fetty Wap Sent a Postcard and Flowers to the Principal

And, in a pretty heartwarming turn for an otherwise concerning story, Fetty Wap himself seemed to sympathize with the principal.

According to Yahoo!News, Fetty Wap sent a postcard and some flowers to her on June 4. He wrote, "Principal O'Connell, I hope these flowers lift up your spirit, wishing you the best. God bless from Fetty Wap and the team."

And her spirit needs some lifting up, too. That's because, according to Action News Jax, letters from the school district appear to show that she's likely not going to get her job back. What an unfortunate situation.
