Florida Man Flees Police Twice, Crashes, Runs, And Gets Arrested

Marcus Trace Selby, a 24-year-old Cape Coral man, was the protagonist of a series of vehicle and foot chases on Saturday, February 8. Initially pulled over by a broken tail light, Selby decided he would attempt to escape from the police. He did, eventually, after crashing his car after a second chase, resulting in him running away from police on foot. However, the following day,

According to FOX 4, Selby's night started when police arrived at a local bar, Diamond Billiards. Reportedly, they responded to a disturbance, and Selby was present at the bar. While it is unclear what role Selby played in the disturbance, he did talk to the police but left shortly after. He didn't know it at the time, but this was just the first of many encounters with the police Selby was going to have during that night.

Lisa Greenberg, a Cape Coral Police Department spokesperson, stated that police officers noted that Selby got into a white GMC pickup truck. Minutes later, however, officers attempted a traffic stop after noticing one of his tail lights was out.

Chases

Initially, Selby stopped his vehicle and he lowered his window. However, he quickly changed his mind and decided to speed away in an attempt to escape the police. Later the same thing happened again.

"That driver did pull over again, same thing happened, where that driver rolled down the window a little bit and took off," Greenberg said. "So that's now two traffic stops from Cape Coral Police Department that this man fled from."

Police chased down Selby and performed a PIT maneuver, which caused Selby to crash his vehicle. However, Marcus Selby wasn't done fighting just yet. He proceeded to get out of the truck and escape on foot, successfully avoiding being arrested.

The following day, however, after causing such a dramatic scene, Marcus Trace Selby had a sudden change of mind. He turned himself in to Florida Highway Patrol on Sunday, February 9. He now faces 16 charges, including fleeing and eluding police. Cape Coral police have already met Selby before, arresting him multiple times throughout the years.

To even further complicate his legal situation, it turns out that the GMC truck he was driving wasn't even his. One of his family members, who owns the vehicle, has pressed charges against him.
