This is a tragic end to what was evidently intended to be a brief, fun getaway. The bodies of four family members have reportedly been located after their small plane crashed. They had gone to visit the Bahamas. Per People, their aircraft reportedly crashed while flying back to Florida.

Per ABC News on Tuesday, September 8, the bodies of the two grandparents and two adult grandchildren were allegedly discovered by their relatives. A statement issued by the family via the outlet said this. "Our relatives ultimately located our loved ones and had to bring them aboard their own vessels."
The family's statement also added more information. "We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported us, searched alongside us, and kept our family in their prayers." They are asking for privacy as they deal with this very sad outcome. An investigation into what went wrong that caused the four deaths is continuing.
The Plane Crash and the Family's Subsequent Disappearance
According to a previous news release from the Royal Bahamas Police that is posted on
Facebook, the situation was already being looked into. "Police received a report at approximately 2:20 p.m., on Monday 7th, September, 2026, that an aircraft may have gone down in the waters off Red Bays. Following the report, the Police Control Room in New Providence contacted Air Traffic Control. Information provided by the Operations Officer confirmed that a PA-34 Piper five seater aircraft, bearing tail number N212MI, departed Great Harbour Cay at approximately 11:12 a.m., en route to Opa-locka, Florida. The aircraft had four persons on board."The release adds that Air Traffic Control lost contact with the plane. The Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association was aware of the incident, as was the United States Coast Guard. The USCG tried to search for the plane but poor weather conditions at the time made a postponement necessary.

NBC6 South Florida says that according to family members, the family consists of "a couple and two grandchildren, who have been identified as Mario Lamar, 80; his wife Lili Lamar, 79; Sofia Sosa, 28; and Christian Sosa, 22...."
