The flight, coming from Tenerife to John Lennon Airport in Liverpool, was over Spain when the woman on board went into what the crew suspected was cardiac arrest. Within minutes, three people jumped to her aid. One of them was a nurse. She assisted in performing CPR on the woman as she struggled with her medical emergency.

It was quickly clear that the woman needed to be on the ground, and quickly. So, the flight was diverted to land in northern Spain, rather than back in England. For 50 minutes, the three people took it in turn to deliver potentially life-saving CPR. Looking back, one of the men recounted their efforts.

"The staff got an oxygen tank and a defibrillator while myself, a nurse, and a physiotherapist took it in turns to perform CPR on the woman," he said.

Despite Their Best Effort, Holiday Maker Didn't Make It

The valiant efforts of the three people on board the diverted flight were in vain. "We tried our best, but she died onboard the plane. When we landed, police, paramedics and the CID team came onto the plane before we all got off," the man told The Echo.

The woman who died aboard the diverted flight from Tenerife was traveling with her husband. The tragic news prompted a statement from EasyJet. "The well-being of our passengers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority. Our crew are trained to respond to medical issues and did everything possible during the flight, along with a medical professional who was assisting on board."

They have also confirmed that "We have remained in contact with the family and are continuing to offer our support and assistance."

There was little anyone could do for the sick woman as she died on board the flight. The crew and polits did all they could to get her to the ground teams as soon as possible. It was a commendable effort the three passengers made to try to save her life.
