Keith Newman, a British flight attendant for Virgin Atlantic, was waiting in line to ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, when a teenage girl tried to jump ahead of him. In response, he pushed her. This incident led to his arrest on Feb. 20.
What Happened at Walt Disney World?
According to the New York Post, while the 47-year-old Newman was in line for the Walt Disney World ride, an 18-year-old and her friend attempted to move ahead of him. The arrest affidavit states the unfortunate sequence of events began when the girls tried to pass Newman.
The two girls informed Newman that their friends were ahead in the line, but Newman refused to let them pass. When the girls tried to go around him anyway, Newman allegedly pushed one of them back with both hands, causing her to fall into her friend.
His Behavior Was Called "Inexcusable"
Newman denied pushing the girl. He told officers that she walked into his hand. Newman was then charged with battery. He pleaded not guilty. The flight attendant returned to the United Kingdom after being released on $1,000 bail.
The victim's father expressed disapproval of the flight attendant's actions at Walt Disney World.
"I hope this sends a message that it's never okay to put your hands on someone else except for self-defense, especially somebody a lot younger than you and from the opposite sex," he said.
He then added, "My daughter is 18, but she looks 15. She's 5 feet 2 inches and 120 pounds. There's no mistaking the fact that she was a child, so for him to put his hands on a child, he was dead-on wrong. It's inexcusable what he did."
The news of this incident at Walt Disney World comes days after a report that instruments belonging to a marching band in Ohio were stolen from their equipment truck the day before the group's performance on Main Street U.S.A. They were able to perform thanks to the efforts of the resourceful teachers and parents.
