28-year-old Joe Little was out casting the ol' line at Oregon's Hammond Marina on Sept. 27 when the rock he was using as a stool suddenly budged.

"He said that he felt it start to move, and he put his feet down to stop it, but the boulder was huge, and he slipped down, and it just went over him," the fisherman's grandmother, Kelly Simonson, told local outlet KPTV.

Pinned under the heavy boulder, Little had to do some quick thinking. Luckily, the fisherman still had his earbuds in. He managed to use them to ask Siri to call 911.

However, the approaching tide made rescue efforts tricky.

"Watchstanders at the Sector Columbia River command center received a request from the Warrenton Fire Department to assist with the rescue of a man who was pinned under a rock on the jetty at Hammond Marina," the U.S. Coast Guard explained in a statement. "It was unsafe to evacuate him by foot due to the unstable terrain. An Air Station Astoria MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched and arrived on scene at 8:51 a.m."

Later that morning, Little was successfully airlifted to safety.

Fisherman's Mother Recounts the Severe Injuries Her Son Had Following Being Trapped Under a Massive Boulder

The fisherman's mother, Mindy Little, was in Seattle when she learned of the harrowing rescue.

"It's a miracle my son's alive," she told CBS affiliate KOIN. "It was panic. We couldn't get home fast enough," she added.

She also revealed to the outlet how badly her son had been injured in the incident.

"It looked like his face had been torn off of him; his face was smashed in," she told KOIN, adding it was "nothing a mother should see."

Joe Little was transported to Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland due to the severity of his injuries. The fisherman underwent an eight hour facial recontricxtion surgery on Oct. 1, per KPTV.

A SupportNow fundraiser has been established to support Little as he recovers. As of this writing, the fundraising page has raised over $20,000.
