Fire Hydrants Run Dry In Palisades As Wildfires Burn On

It has emerged that the wildfires tearing through the Palisades of California are going unchecked due to fire hydrants running out of water. As footage shows, the flames are burning on, with firefighters unable to douse them.

It is impossible to fight the flames of wildfires without water, but the infrastructure in California has failed. Aging pipes, insufficient water networks, and a typically dry season have resulted in dry fire hydrants. As the footage shows, there is nothing emergency services can do.

There are many theories as to why the water is no longer running to essential hydrants. Many believe it is due to the reservoirs being so empty, while others blame an archaic infrastructure. Some speculate that the issue lies with just how many other water points are being used. With so much demand across California, there is no pressure left to feed the fire hydrants.

Without Fire Hydrants, Fire Services Are Left High And Dry

Without the ability to start dousing the flames with water, the emergency services are left with no other options. Nearby, there is a large ocean, but the logistics of actually using it to put out fires is a whole new problem.

The high winds that are responsible, in part, for spreading the wildfires have grounded many aircraft. Usually, with helicopters and planes, they could scoop water to drop on the wildfires. However, because of adverse conditions, this has become incredibly difficult.

There have been calls for someone to be held responsible for this avoidable situation. California is known for its wildfires, and as global temperatures increase, they have become a mounting threat. Something like the fire hydrant's water feed should have been a priority for the governor of the area.

Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, is being scrutinized for his lack of action leading to fire hydrants running out of water. Along with this, came many other initiatives he promised, but failed to follow through with. His inaction has now contributed to the devastating wildfires eating through thousands of miles of California.

There is now little that can be done to bring water to the areas affected by the fires. Despite having an ocean just on their doorstep, California is dry as a tinderbox.
