Matt Brown, one of the stars of the Discovery Channel reality series Alaskan Bush People, was found dead last week at the age of 42 in the waters of the Okanogan River.

As we reported, Matt's brother Bear shared the news on Instagram, explaining that his injuries appeared to be self-inflicted.
Given this information, a video Matt uploaded in July 2024, his last, now seems all the more startling.
What Did the "Alaskan Bush People" Star Say?
In the clip, Matt talked about his struggles with his mental health and addiction.
"It's really important to sit down, figure out what's going on, and what to do about it. So whenever that happens for me, I remember my recovery training because I spent six months in rehab. And I knew I really had to pay attention," he began.
Matt added, "I have very good counselors in all of my rehabs, and I pull all of those recovery tools. I've got some cards here that I'm using to write out the things I'm going through, and then solutions for it so that I can check them later and see if it's a good thing.
"All right, never give up, never surrender, guys."
In a follow-up post, the Alaskan Bush People star shared more on how he used the cards. He explained that they helped put "toxic" moments in perspective.
Matt Brown's Death Came As a Surprise
On May 28, Bear shared that Matt's body had been seen floating down the river. The news led his family to fear the worst.
Matt's body was then recovered on May 30. In a statement on Instagram several days later, Bear explained that his other brother, Noah, positively identified the body of the Alaskan Bush People star. He said that the death of his brother came as a shock.
"I would have never suspected he would have hurt himself, honestly," he said. "He struggled for a long time, as I've mentioned, and I was so worried he was gonna end up OD'd or something like that. I didn't think that he would hurt himself. It does look as though the injury is self-inflicted, obviously."
He also asked that fans be respectful in the comments.
"Sometimes, words can hurt more than fists can, and a lot of people have left negative comments on Matt's stuff, too," Bear explained. "In one of his last videos, he's actually talking about how negative people were on his posts. And you guys should keep in mind that people on the other side of your screen, people that you're watching a video of, they're real people, too."
