Family Wants Answers After Amusement Park Worker Dies Crashing Go Kart Into Forklift

A teen employee at Frankie's Fun Park in South Carolina has died following a Go Kart accident involving an industrial forklift truck.

According to Fox Carolina, the incident happened on Friday, December 27th. Authorities confirm that dispatch received the 911 call at 11:43 AM. 17-year-old Kamel Seveion Sewell was operating a Go Kart when it crashed into an industrial forklift. He was a student at Fountain Inn High School.

The coroner's office confirmed that the cause of Sewell's death was a blunt-force injury to the head. No foul play is suspected, and authorities are treating the death as accidental. The park has confirmed that another staff member was operating the forklift at the time.

The Greenville County Office and Greenville Sheriff's Office are conducting an investigation into the tragedy.

Frankie's Fun Park has since released a statement regarding the incident:

"Frankie's Fun Park of Greenville regrets to announce that on Friday, December 27th, a tragic accident occurred that resulted in the loss of Seveion Sewell, 17. Seveion worked at Frankie's for over a year.

At this time, Frankie's is providing information and assistance to both law enforcement and OSHA. When the circumstances and causes of the accident are determined, additional information will be related, as appropriate. It is with a heavy heart that we share this news. Please keep Seveion and his family in your thoughts."

The Family Wants Answers Regarding The Go Kart Accident

Information regarding the accident is vague, as are the events leading to the crash. Following the incident, the Sewell family's Attorney, Ryan James released the following statement:

"The family is in considerable mourning. In fact, I'd candidly say, gut-wrenched. After my meeting with them this morning, it became clear they want answers. They deserve that much. As the day progressed, my office began to undertake the process of fact-finding, with all eyes on causation, as well as the 'who.' As this matter moves forward, we'll update. At this time, the family requests privacy as they grieve the loss of their loved one."

According to Fox Carolina, South Carolina's Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is investigating the fatality.
