The Ford F250 is a monstrous pickup truck. It is one of the largest in commercial production, but it comes with a bit of a problem. Sometimes, while in the park, the truck can begin to move backward and forward. According to the lawsuit, this has been a problem with a number of these particular pickup trucks.
Roy 'Mack' Irwin, 79, of New Braunfels, had left his vehicle in park as he collected a number of things for a church gathering. But, as he was collecting the items, his pickup truck began to move backward and forward.
Not wanting it to get loose, or start to damage other vehicles, he ran to the driver's side door. Footage shows the elderly man struggling to keep up with the pickup truck as it rolls backward. He has the driver's door open, but barely keeps pace with it.
As he grabs for the interior of the Ford F250 pickup truck, he is dragged under it by the open door. The truck then rolls over his torso, crushing him. The lawsuit states he "was pulled underneath the front driver side resulting in the vehicle's front tire running over his upper torso, trapping him alive until first responders arrived at the scene and freed him."
He later died at the hospital.
Family Looking To Sue Ford For Damages
The family of the elderly man, crushed to death by his own vehicle, is looking to sue both Ford and the dealership that sold them the pickup truck.
According to the lawsuit, there have been multiple complaints of this particular issue with the F250. However, despite the problem, there have been no recalls made. This could have prevented the elderly man from being run over by his pickup truck.
The family is also looking to sue the dealership that sold the F250 with a particular grill guard. This addition to the pickup truck prevented the pedestrian protection from working. This is designed to stop the F250 from running over pedestrians.
