Singer and former American Idol judge Katy Perry has been embroiled in a nasty legal tussle. Her adversary is an aging, ill Army veteran with Huntington's disease. At the center of their courtroom tug-of-war is a lavish, 9,000-square-foot mansion in Montecito, California. That tony community is also home to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as Oprah Winfrey.

Per dailymail.co.uk, an 85-year-old man named Carl Westcott sold his opulent home to Perry and her husband, Orlando Bloom, for more than $11 million five years ago. Shortly after, Westcott reportedly wanted to get out of the sale. Per the outlet, he claimed he was "under the influence of painkillers when he signed."
Perry Is Fighting Back - And Taking Serious Heat From Carl Westcott's Family
Perry and Bloom emerged victorious following "a court battle" in late 2023. Now the "Firework" singer is suing Westcott, who is receiving hospice care. She is looking for "$6 million in back rent and alleged damages." His family is allegedly livid. Per the outlet, they cited Perry's "greed" and lashed out at what they call "the Hollywood elite system."
According to the outlet via The Sun, Westcott's son, Chart, reportedly shared that, in his opinion, Perry "has no sense of fair play, no empathy, zero empathy, quite the opposite." He added, "There's no real explanation other than greed. This is such a small deal to be worried about - I think its a matter of privilege - her lawyers and her business manager are dealing with it."
The younger Westcott continued, "It's unfortunate that Katy and Orlando have been unreasonable from the start."
Westcott Is Apparently In Declining Health, According To His Son
Chart Westcott said of his dad, "His activity level is very low, he's not awake very often, he's very foggy - and still recognizes us, but the decline is just consistent, and very painful for our family to watch." The older Westcott has been confined to bed for more than a year and a half. His son described Carl as being in "horrible condition."
His family's ordeal is not yet over. They will be facing Perry in court at a damages trial.
