Dorothy Kuspis died at the age of 98 on May 27. Her granddaughter, Ashleigh Wegner, said, "She lived a good life. So it wasn't a surprise, but it was kind of a—with anything, any loss—kind of a shock when it happened." Kuspis's relatives then began making the necessary arrangements. They ordered an urn from Amazon. Wegner recalled, "It came within a couple days. When I opened it, it was just a little dusty."
Then she had a very nasty surprise. "I unscrewed the back and that's when I noticed it still had remains inside of it. And that was like, I have — who are you and what are you?"
The Urn Was Already Dusty With Ashes
To say that Ashleigh Wegner was very taken aback would probably be an understatement. The urn was allegedly dusty from the ashes it held. She shared, "I was shocked. I was kind of grossed out. I was uncomfortable."
Her shock and dismay were probably magnified because she had a previous bad experience with human ashes. "We've had a past similar situation. So a few years back, me and my husband came across a box of ashes in an alleyway where we lived." They brought the remains they discovered to the sheriff's department, which found the family of the deceased person.
Wegner Dealt With Human Ashes Before
That family did not want to take possession of the ashes that Wegner and her husband stumbled upon. So they decided to respectfully spread them in a picturesque location - the Arizona mountains. They think they will do something like that with the ashes in the urn they bought for Dorothy Kuspis. Per the outlet, Wegner mentioned, "I didn't want it to end up on the warehouse shelf again and have somebody else make a purchase and have it accidentally get shipped to someone else in a moment like this."
She Finally Got Another Urn
When Ashleigh Wegner reached out to Amazon, she was informed that she could get a refund. The third-party seller of the used urn reportedly didn't answer her. She now has a replacement urn.
