Family Blasts Hospital For Not Doing More After Nurse Allegedly Broke Their Infant Son's Leg

Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman, a former nurse, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and felony child abuse back in November 2024. She was accused of physically abusing one unidentified newborn baby. However, several families at the hospital where Strotman used to work suffered similar incidents, dating back to 2023.

One of the mothers was left astounded when she found out that the hospital allowed Strotman to come back to work. The anonymous mother, who talked with the Daily Mail, recounted her traumatic experience at Henrico Doctors' Hospital. She, unfortunately, had to suffer first the death of one of her premature twin boys in July 2023.

"After our son died, we would come and visit our other twin when we weren't at work, making sure that all the nurses knew that his brother had passed and we don't want this to happen again," the mother told the outlet.

Despite the mother's insistence on keeping an eye out for the surviving twin boy, someone ended up physically abusing him. Two months after the twin boy was born, a doctor found strange bruises on the boy, who was still in the NICU. An X-ray showed he had suffered a broken wrist. However, the hospital provided an absurd excuse.

"They told me and my husband that he had fragile bones because he was a preemie," the mother said. "They were pretty much blaming it on the fact that he was a preemie. And I didn't believe that. Not one bit." Their suspicions grew as the bruises on their son's body resembled fingerprints. However, when prompted, the hospital staff weren't able to provide an answer.

Families Seeking Justice

More than a year after the mother's surviving twin boy suffered a broken wrist, police arrested Erin Strotman. While Strotman was charged for one case in particular, it has since been discovered that several babies suffered similar fractures and injuries. Reportedly, Strotman was also in charge of the mother's surviving twin.

"I saw that she was on my son's service quite a few times," the mother said. "She just didn't seem like she would be one of those people... She was one of those people that you just never would think that would hurt a child. And when I saw her initials, I immediately cried because I just I feel so disgusted and I feel annoyed with the hospital and that they didn't do more."

The mother, who said she is mad after finding out Strotman was allowed back in the hospital a year after her son sustained injuries at the NICU, joined other families and talked with attorney Peter Anderson. Should investigations find evidence of Strotman injuring her twin son, the mother would like her to be charged. A civil lawsuit remains a possibility.

"Our clients trusted Henrico Doctors' Hospital with their most vulnerable loved ones. The hospital's failure to protect these innocent babies is an inexcusable breach of trust," Anderson said. "We intend to hold the institution fully accountable for the grievous harm inflicted upon these families and their children."
