According to 8 News Now, the ex-husband threatened the couple before shooting them. He allegedly said he would "kill them and send them to hell" just a few months prior. When the girlfriend went to pick up Rodriguez-Guillen's ex-wife around 4:45 PM last Friday, the perpetrator hid in his car.
Ex-Husband Murders Ex's Girlfriend And Injures Ex-Wife
As soon as the girlfriend showed up, the ex-husband attempted to stop them from leaving by driving in front of her car. Herrera managed to get away, but Rodriguez-Guillen was in hot pursuit of the couple. As soon as he cut off her Hyundai in traffic, he hopped out of his car holding a rifle before opening fire on them.
The ex-husband allegedly began shooting after Herrera opened her car door in an attempt to confront him. Rodriguez-Guillen demanded his ex move out of the way as he walked closer to the car. That's when he sent another shot to Herrera's face. She now had deadly wounds on both her body and head.
As soon as the man realized one of the bullets hit his ex-wife, he did a 180. Rodriguez-Guillen immediately called the cops after apologizing to her, admitting that he shot someone. His ex-wife would later tell cops that she didn't believe her ex-husband intentionally shot her.
The police pronounced the girlfriend dead while arresting Rodriguez-Guillen. Luckily, the ex-wife got to the hospital in time. She spilled all the details she could to the authorities, from the split of her 24-year relationship to her on-again, off-again relationship with Herrera.
The ex-wife started seeing Herrera 18 months prior. Before that, the exes had divorced 12 years into the relationship and shared seven children. Despite the divorce, they continued to live together and have a romantic relationship of sorts.
Two months before the horrific incident, the ex-wife shut down the relationship she had with Rodriguez-Guillen for good. He then became "jealous and controlling," as the ex-wife described. This was when he started threatening the couple.
The police are now holding Rodriguez-Guillen in Clark County Detention Center without bail, according to 3 News. He's facing a myriad of charges, ranging from attempted murder with a deadly weapon to eight counts of discharging a gun at/into an occupied structure or vehicle. His next scheduled hearing in court is on February 19.
