Romo was recently axed from his job as a play-by-play broadcaster at CBS. The network announced on Friday (October 2) that they and the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback had mutually agreed to part ways after a near decade-long partnership.
Terrell Owens Shows No Sympathy For Tony Romo
Despite spending three years as teammates, Owens says he does not have much sympathy for Romo following his departure. Because Romo didn't appear to really have his back when he was shipped out of Dallas in 2008.
"I'm not surprised. I mean, why the hell do I care? He didn't care when I left," Owens said during a recent appearance on the Get to The Point podcast. "He didn't care about my departure from the Cowboys some years ago. So why in the hell would we be talking about his departure from CBS?"
The decision came after Romo was slapped with a DUI charge back in July. Losing out on a $18 million-a-year gig is significant. But Owens believes that is only a microcosm of Tony's problems.
"He has a bigger problem, which is, you know, drinking under the influence, DUIs, things of that nature," Owens said.
The former NFL standout also questioned why people who make those types of character decisions always seem to land the most prestigious gigs. But network executives seem to have a problem paying people like him, who have a clean rap sheet, on a much smaller scale.
"People that, you know, guys like that, they put them in high regard, high esteem. You hire them, you give them hundreds of millions of dollars," Owens continued. "Guy like me, you don't want to pay me $250,000. But, you know, guys like that, they go in, and they embarrass themselves, embarrass the business entity. So yeah, I couldn't care less."
At the time of writing, Romo has not responded to Owens' comments.
