According to a report by the Daily Mail, officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a call on Monday at around 8:30 am on West 15th Street. The report was regarding an alleged dead body spotted in the backyard.

Police found the body of Erika Winford, 51, when they arrived. She was reportedly wrapped in multiple cloths, towels, and blankets. Officers pronounced Winford dead at the scene with a gunshot wound.

Eric Cobb, 28, reportedly tried to leave the house when the police arrived. Shortly after an interview, police allegedly arrested him.

Cobb played basketball at a high level for three seasons, with his first at the University of South Carolina. He reportedly played for the University of Connecticut from 2017 to 2019 but was suspended in 2018 due to 'conduct detrimental to the team.'

Police Found Guns In The Basketball Player's Bedroom

Per a report by Fox61, the Sheriff's Office says that its officers found blood in multiple places in the vicinity. There was blood on the towels and on the back doorstep, and there was a trail leading to where police discovered the body. Officers also reported finding blood on a floorboard which had been removed.

When officers unwrapped Winford's body, they reportedly found multiple gunshot wounds to the head, stomach, and left leg. The Fox61 report alleges that officers found numerous firearms at the foot of Cobb's bed. They also found bullet cases in a bin outside the property.

Officers gave a statement at the scene explaining that one witness said they heard multiple gunshots. Another reportedly heard someone scream, he's going to kill me. A family friend, Melvin Brown, allegedly told officers that he was with Winford on Sunday. He felt Winford didn't want to leave his vehicle and return home. He alleges that Winford told him she was afraid of Cobb in the past. Winford reportedly told another friend that Cobb was "possessed and schizophrenic and needed medication, but he couldn't afford it."

Fox81 reveals that authorities charged Cobb with second-degree murder. He is due to stand in a court in Jacksonville in March.
