Watch Ethan Hawke, Jimmy Fallon and Friends Parody The Highwaymen

When Ethan Hawke recently dropped in on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new film Blaze, it devolved into a parody of The Highwaymen.

Hawke donned the familiar braids and guitar strap of Willie Nelson while Fallon resembled some unholy cross between Johnny Cash and Donny Osmond. Rounding out the quartet was the actor behind the film's eponymous singer/songwriter Blaze Foley, Ben Dickey, as Waylon Jennings and the film's Townes Van Zandt, Charlie Sexton, as Kris Kristofferson.

The cosplay version of the country supergroup performed "On the Road Again," highlighted by Dickey's quirky Waylon impression and Fallon's in-song explanation of multi-player game Fortnite.

Foley was one of the great songwriters of the '70s and '80s, penning the classic songs "If I Could Only Fly" and "Clay Pigeons." Although it's tempting to dismiss just about any Hollywood treatment of a historic character, the trailer and Light in the Attic's official soundtrack make the film seem beyond promising for fans of the legendary Austin, Texas-based country singer. The film came out around Texas on Aug. 17 and will arrive in select theaters throughout September.

"On The Road Again (Let's Just Stay Here)" Parody Lyrics

On the road again
I just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends,
And I can't wait to get on the road again

I like staying here
Life is better when I'm staying here
Just sit at home, might watch TV, and have a beer
Honestly, I'd love to just stay here

But back to the road,
That's the place where all of us should go
We're four good friends who all like goin' with the flow,
So I can't wait to get on that road again

Nope, we're staying here
I kinda thought I made it crystal clear
Fellas, listen, I'm not tryin' to be weird
I just really think we all should just stay here

On the road again,
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're all staying here
And we'll sit in comfy chairs out on the driveway
Just do as I say

Hold your horse, my friend!
Your stubbornness I really can't comprehend
Fine then why don't we ask these two gentlemen,
Where do you stand on the issue of the road again?

I think both sound fun,
I'm just tryin' to be friends with everyone
To both ideas, I give an upward thumb,
But I'm kinda burnt so maybe let's just stay here, sorry guys

I don't disagree,
A guys' night in just kinda tickles me,
We could drink rosé and eat crackers with some cheese
And wind it down sippin' chamomile tea,
Oh come on you guys, I can't believe that I am losin' this fight
But hold on a sec, If we stay here we can get trashed and play Fortnite

Wait, what is Fortnite?

Fortnite is an online, multi-player game where a flyin' bus drops you off onto an island. On that island, you face off against 99 other players, each of whom spends time collectin' weapons and materials with which to fight other players and build, well, forts. The last man alive is the winner. It's sorta like Hunger Games meets Minecraft. It's, like, super fun

We're stayin' here.
I'm just so happy that we're stayin' here
The life I love is when I'm hangin' with my peers
We're playin' Fortnite and we're stayin' here
We're playin' Fortnite and we're stayin' here
We're playin' Fortnite and we're stayin' here
