Chris Spatola has sadly passed away at the age of 47. Spatola was a renowned college basketball analyst for ESPN and was the son-in-law of famed coach Mike Krzyzewski. Following Spatola's death, ESPN released a short statement on social media.

"Chris Spatola brought a unique perspective to ESPN's college basketball coverage, shaped by his experiences as a student-athlete, Army veteran, coach and broadcaster," the post on X read. "He was thoughtful, prepared, and passionate about the sport, earning the respect of colleagues, coaches, players, and fans alike. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time."

No cause of death for Spatola has been made public.

The Krzyzewski family released their own statement following Spatola's passing, detailing their loss and their gratitude for the love and support that has been sent their way.

"There are no words to adequately express our heartbreak over the loss of our beloved Chris Spatola," the statement read, via The New York Post. "Chris served our country, was a devoted husband and father, and was such an important part of our family. We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, thoughts, and prayers we have received during this incredibly difficult time. We respectfully ask for privacy as our entire family, particularly Jamie and her three beautiful children, grieve and process this unimaginable loss." 

Spatola is survived by his wife and their three children.

Following the news of Spatola's death, college basketball fans shared their shock and condolences online.

"Heartbreaking, as always when someone unexpectedly goes so young before their time," one fan wrote on X. "My little brother, was an athlete and healthy, died during a softball game he was playing. My HEART AND PRAYERS are with the Spatola and Krzyzewski families, and also the Duke Family."

Another fan praised Spatola's career and how he navigated his way to being a top voice within ESPN.

"Chris Spatola's path to that ESPN headset was remarkable," the fan wrote. "West Point basketball player. Army veteran. Coach. Then more than a decade explaining the game on television with the perspective of someone who had actually lived so many different sides of it. He was only 47."
