A few years after the surprise release of his record Mr. Misunderstood, Eric Church announced to his fan club, the Church Choir, that he's back with a new album to be released on October 5 this year. Shortly after he drummed up excitement, Church unveiled a new song and music video for "Desperate Man" starring himself and the song's co-writer, Ray Wylie Hubbard.

Produced by Jay Joyce, "Desperate Man" is an addictive piece of groovy Southern rock that will serve as the title track for Church's upcoming album. Church told Rolling Stone that creating new music after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas was difficult for him, especially since he headlined the fest two nights prior to the tragic night.

"I was a little lost for a while. I think like a lot of people I was in a little bit of a funk after something like that," Church said. "I was still a little burned out. A little bit going through the motions...That's where 'Desperate Man' kind of came from. I wrote that in the studio. I got a little bit desperate in there to just find an album, because it was not fucking happening."

Ray Wylie Hubbard gave more detail as to how the song formed on Twitter. "eric said lets write about a desperate man," Hubbard wrote. "i said i once was so desperate i went to a fortune teller to get my future read and she said i didn't have one. he smiled, laid down a groove and we rode it to town.."

The music video for "Desperate Man" is a cinematic romp with Church and Hubbard acquiring vinyl pellets like drugs to make records for his fans, something he deems incredibly important. Since Church now has a deal with his record label EMI Nashville that recognizes his fan club, he will be releasing Desperate Man to the Church Choir for free upon its release. He'll also continue to connect with fans on the road with tour dates listed through August with a couple planned for September.
