Emily Ann Roberts Takes on Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’ on ‘The Voice’

Emily Ann Roberts channeled her East Tennessee roots for an energetic cover of Dolly Parton‘s hit track “9 to 5” on this week’s episode of The Voice.

“Parton represents the type of artist I want to be,” Roberts explained during rehearsals for her live performance. “She’s from my same area. I’ve grown up going to Dollywood.”

Roberts supplied a spunky performance of the lighthearted track, which earned an excited reaction from her team coach Blake Shelton.

“This song’s meant for you!” Shelton cheered after Roberts’ performance. “You’ve got to be going to the finale,” Shelton said. “You have to be going to the finale.”

Even Shelton’s rival coach and rumored girlfriend Gwen Stefani had nothing but praise for the Knoxville native. “That vocal was crazy,” she said after the performance. “I don’t understand how you could sing that perfect. Your crazy, kooky, spunky side came out, and I want to see more of that.”

During tonight’s (Dec. 8) episode, viewers will see if Roberts earned enough votes to enter the next round of competition. Dolly Parton is also set to perform her hit “Coat of Many Colors” during tonight’s episode to promote her upcoming TV movie of the same name.
