Ellen DeGeneres has opened up about the tragic passing of a longtime producer on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. As reported by Page Six, she opened up about her loss in a video posted on her social media channels.
Ellen posted a video of her lamenting the loss of Matthew Wright, the former executive producer of the show. He was 68 years old at the time of his passing. Ellen took to social media in front of a scenic English background as she was brought to tears over the tragic loss.
"Hi everybody, um, I don't know if any... So, Matt Wright, who was our executive producer, and was featured on our show a lot, died the other day," she explained, stumbling over her words.
"He was an amazing guy, he was funny. God, he made me laugh. He would surprise me with things that he did all the time," she recalled. "He was smart, he was kind... he was a part of our show that... I mean, everyone loved him. Everyone loved him, I loved him."
She also tearfully revealed that they had been "working on a project to do together that we were supposed to start," - "We're gonna miss him," she explained.
Ellen also described Matt Wright as "the glue to our entire family at 'The Ellen Show'".

Ellen DeGeneres Had a Treasured Friendship and Work Relationship with Wright
Of course, this loss hit Ellen especially hard as the pair were friends and work colleagues for a number of years - if you didn't know, Wright was a producer on the show for 16 years, having appeared on the show in numerous bits over its time on TV.
Wright's family wrote in a GoFundMe fundraiser that Wright died on October 30 "in an unfathomable tragedy." They asked for donations: "If Matt has ever made you laugh, said an encouraging word right when you needed it... Or ordered one too many appetizers for the enjoyment of the whole table, now is the time to repay the favor," family friends wrote.
This really is an unfortunate loss - may he rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew him.
