Whirlpool Issues Electric Kettle Recall for Potential Burn Hazard

Whirlpool and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall for KitchenAid electric kettles due to an issue with the plastic handle on the kettle. Some customers have reported the handle separating from the electric kettle, resulting in a burn hazard.

About 40,000 of the electric kettles were sold throughout the United States in retail stores and online, including at Bed Bath & Beyond, Dillard's, Fry's Electronics, Kitchen Kaboodle, Kohl's, Navy Exchange, Target, Williams Sonoma, and, between September 2013 and February 2018 for about $100 to $120. The kettles were sold in stainless steel, red, black, white, liquid graphite, and cocoa silver.

If you have a KitchenAid electric kettle, look on the bottom of the kettle to find the model number and serial number. The model number will be written in this format: KEK1722SX. All the serial numbers listed are in a range starting with YA325.

Once you've found your kettle's model and serial numbers, check the company's complete list of model and serial numbers to see if your kettle is part of the recall.

The CPSC noted that 79 customers have reported problems with the handle of the kettle separating to Whirlpool, and three people reported minor burn injuries from the incident.

Over 47,000 kettles were also sold in Canada, and another 1,600 were sold in Mexico. Recalls have been issued in those two countries as well.
