Elderly Woman Claims She Was Beaten For Driving A Tesla

Susan talked with AZFamily and told them how the incident went down. It took place in Flagstaff, Arizona, while she was riding along Route 66. While riding, she started noticing that another vehicle was starting to chase her.

At one point, as per the outlet, a green car pulled up right next to her Tesla and swerved in front of it to prevent her from moving forward. "I started to say, you cut me off what's your problem, but I didn't know how much he heard me," Susan told the outlet. That's when the driver got out of his vehicle and allegedly started to strike the 61-year-old elderly woman. "He got out and started to punch me with a closed fist," she added.

The alleged attack continued as the woman tried to defend herself, even resorting to biting the man's hand. Eventually, one of the green car's passengers walked over to her Tesla and pulled the alleged attacker away from Susan. Both the passenger and the driver then returned to the green car and drove off.

According to AZFamily, the driver has been cited by Flagstaff police to appear in court on Monday.

Police Investigation

No official reason behind the green car's alleged actions was provided. However, Susan believes that she was targeted because she was driving a Tesla.

"I'm just appalled," she said. "I didn't buy my car for a political statement. I bought my car because its really fun to drive. My politics have nothing to do with that. I'm ashamed of our society and what they are doing."

According to the New York Post, however, local police stated that the incident happened following "driving behavior, honking, and disorderly hand gestures." Moreover, witnesses told Flagstaff police that both Susan and the green car driver were driving erratically.

Arizona Congressman Abe Hamadeh denounced the incident, sharing footage of the interaction on X.

"They were targeted because they drove a Tesla, and as a result felt quite vulnerable," he wrote. "They were surprised someone would do something like that and realized if they were doing it, and targeting them because of the car they drive, they needed to take additional measures to protect themselves."

As per the Post, the green car driver was identified as Robert Artherton, a 33-year-old man. He was charged with disorderly conduct, assault, and aggressive driving.
