"Thank you! I wish you weren't so big. I want to pick you up, but I couldn't!" Dustin Lynch exclaimed after Trace Adkins told him that he will be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry next month.
On Tuesday night (August 21), Lynch, Adkins and Exile played the Opry stage in the 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. slot after Vince Gill, Eddie Montgomery and Dillon Carmichael played at 7:00 p.m. The night was already special for Adkins who was celebrating the 15th anniversary of his induction into the Nashville institution, but the night became even more memorable when he was the one to extend the invite to Lynch.
Adkins joined Lynch on stage after he played "Cowboys and Angels," coincidentally the first song Lynch played on the Opry stage back in 2012. Once Adkins started saying that joining the Opry family was on the "top of the list" of his achievements, Lynch was probably beginning to feel clued in on what Adkins was going to say.
Once Adkins stated that Lynch's upcoming show date at the Opry would be his induction, Lynch was overcome with emotion, grinning from ear to ear. He hugged his band and thanked his family and crew. Circling back to the music, he said, "I'm gonna attempt to sing a song with a frog in my throat and tears in my eyes," and launched into his newest single from an upcoming project, "Good Girl."
Lynch's last album, Current Mood, brought him two No. 1 hits on the U.S. Country Airplay chart with "Seein' Red" and "Small Town Boy," continuing his No. 1 streak from his 2014 album, Where It's At, with singles "Mind Reader," "Hell of a Night," and "Where It's At." Lynch will become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry on September 18 when he returns to the iconic Tennessee venue, joining not too long after peers Chris Janson and Chris Young.
