What Gas Station Chain Initiated the Recall?

Wawa has long been a favorite of travelers. It boasts over 1000 locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.

It's one of these places that just screams convenience. It has touchscreen kiosks, friendly cashiers, and seemingly endless food choices.

On Friday, April 3, the Pennsylvania-based chain of gas stations issued a recall specifically for four of its 16-ounce drinks. Those include Wawa Iced Tea Lemon, Wawa Iced Tea Diet Lemon, Wawa Diet Lemonade, and Wawa Fruit Punch. The recall affects only these beverages.

These drinks were sold only in select stores in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and also Virginia. The company says nearly a dozen stores in Philadelphia received the recalled beverages, along with multiple other stores across these five states.

The Wawa Iced Tea Lemon was sold in nearly 125 stores across the chain. Wawa Fruit Punch was also sent to over 50 stores. Eight stores carried Wawa Iced Tea Diet Lemon, and a dozen stores also sold Wawa Diet Lemonade.

Why Was the Recall Issued?

In the recall notice, Wawa stated that it "identified and corrected a temporary equipment issue that may have resulted in the presence of an undeclared milk allergen in these products."

Those who have milk or dairy allergies "run the risk of serious or life-threatening" allergic reactions if they consume any of the products.

As of now, no illnesses have been reported from drinking the affected products. Wawa says they have been removed from its shelves and have been disposed of.

Those who have purchased the drinks should throw them away immediately. Affected customers are urged to reach out to the company's 24-hour customer service center through email or phone at 800-444-9292 with any questions or to also request a full refund in the form of a Wawa Gift Card.
