Double Murderer Wants To Be Free Because Prison Is Torture

Let's face it, we all know that prison is not a nice place. However, on average, the people that end up in prison did not-very-nice things. With that in mind, most people feel no sympathy for those who land themselves behind bars. Particularly those who commit truly heinous crimes. Well, one inmate is speaking out. A double murderer is now arguing he wants to be free because prison is like torture.

Prison Is Not Pleasant...Shocking

Ahhh wants...we all have them. I want to win the lottery and travel the world, but the odds of that happening are slim to none. I feel like this man who was convicted of double murder has the same odds of being released from prison.

Brandon Council, was convicted of killing two mothers working at a bank during a robbery. Originally, he was facing the death penalty for his actions. However, the NY Post reports that he was "spared the death penalty by President Biden." While most people may have been happy with keeping their life, for Mr. Council it was not enough.

Now, he wants to be freed from prison altogether. The Post reports that the double murderer filed a motion with the Indiana federal prison. In his motion he is claiming that the prison where he is staying is "one of the worst in the world." Additionally he is arguing that "his solitary confinement has been tantamount to illegal torture."

I hope I never experience illegal torture, but I am sure they could come up with some other creative ways to do that besides keeping you in a room. Granted we are social creatures and I cannot imagine being alone for extended periods of time like that, however I still feel worse things could be happening.

Double Murderer Wants To Be Free

In it attempt to be free, the convicted double murderer claims that the prison has violated his constitutional rights with this "torture." Due to that fact, he should be able to walk free. Mr. Council's demand came days after his sentence was reduced from execution to life in prison.

Originally, Council was sentenced to death after he killed two women, both mothers, during a robbery. His actions showed no hesitation. He shot both women multiple times and made off with $15,000 cash as well as the keys to both of his victims' cars.

While I think he got very lucky escaping the death penalty, Council apparently does not think it is enough. The NY Post reports that this is not the first time that he has attempted to change his sentence. In fact, he has done so at least three times. Once in 2019, 2022, and again in 2023. His requests focused on being removed from solitary confinement which he says is just like torture. He argued that torture is illegal, therefore this punishment that is akin to torture should also be illegal.

Interesting argument considering robbery and murder are also both illegal and he had no qualms with committing both of those acts. Each of Mr. Council's requests have been denied. While Mr. Council continues to advocate for a compassionate release, the odds are slim. "Compassionate releases are typically used for disabled or severely sick patients."

Victims Family Is Fuming

With all of the focus on how Mr. Council feels, and how he wants to be free, few were focused on the victim's families and their feelings. Donna Major's, one of the victims, family spoke out against Council's sentence change. According to the Post, they were disgusted by Biden's decision to save Council from the death penalty. Arguably understandable since no one saved their loved one from death.

Additionally, they were angered that the President never consulted them to see how they felt about it. Her daughter spoke to Fox & Friends about it. "I'm still angry. I am upset that this is even happening, that one man can make this decision without even talking to the victims, without any regard for what we've been through, what we're going through, and completely hurt, frustrated and angry."

While some may wish to show mercy on Mr. Council, Major's husband would argue that his slain wife was "shown no mercy at all."
