When you have a mentor like Dolly Parton, you're inclined to listen. Miley Cyrus has one iconic godmother in Parton; the country icon has been a fixture in the family for years now. Even at their worst moments, she remains true, trying to stick by their sides. The same goes for Miley's music career, watching her go from Hannah Montana to pop superstar over the decades. However, there's one moment that Dolly wasn't particularly in love with regarding Cyrus.

Recently, Miley spoke with Zane Lowe for Apple Music in promotion of her upcoming album Something Beautiful on May 30th. There, she opens up about the role her godmother plays in her life and the advice she gives. One experience in particular sees the pair on a car ride together around the time of her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation. Apparently, Dolly Parton wasn't a fan of the marketing for the record. Since they were stuck together, Miley got an earful about it.

"She didn't love my 'Vacation' era either. She's like, 'Everyone's asking me where you are and I'm wondering the same thing.' She's like, 'Everyday, it's just a new picture of you in a bikini, but like, what are you gonna do for the thing?' I was like, 'Well, I'm working on something else. We've already worked on the thing,'" Miley recalls telling Dolly.
She's like, 'That's not what you do with a project.' She picked me up from my house so I had 45 minutes in a trapped car on the way to her house. So there was no escaping the talking to that I was getting," Miley adds.
I wonder how much of this between Dolly and Cyrus was familial protection and music industry advice. Regardless, the 2023 album saw arguably the biggest hit of Miley's career. Who knows how much the bikinis played a role in that.
