Dolly Parton Supplies Heartfelt Cover of Brandi Carlile's 'The Story'

Dolly Parton is among the star-studded list of contributors paying tribute to Brandi Carlile's landmark 2007 record The Story.

The country superstar recorded a powerful version of the album's title track, one of Carlile's signature songs. Parton's rendition is slightly more laid back and replaces the original's driving electric guitar with plucky banjo and guitar.

Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates Ten Years of The Story features three tracks produced by Dave Cobb, including Parton's. Chris Stapleton was also tapped as backing guitar on Kristofferson's version of "Turpentine." Anderson East is also joined on backing vocals by Miranda Lambert for "Josephine."

"This is a David and Goliath story," Carlile said in a statement. "Since becoming a mother, the reality of a child's beautiful life being torn apart by war felt like too big of a problem for me. So I asked my heroes and friends to help me launch a rock at the giant that is our refugee crisis and help in the only way we know how, through the power of music. It's not how hard you can throw, it's how high you're willing to aim."

All proceeds from the album will go toward War Child UK, which provides support for children in war-torn areas. You can pre-order Cover Stories on iTunes now.
