Dolly Parton may be a newly christened Rockstar thanks to her new album of the same name, but we won't see the title of President, or any label remotely close, next to her name in the future. Parton does reference politics and crooked politicians in her album track "World on Fire," and when asked by Metro if she'd ever consider a presidential run, she responded in a way only Dolly can.
"I think we've had enough 'boobs' in the White House," she responded pointedly. "I would have no interest in politics."
Parton has been adamant about not speaking about politics in the past, so a run for office would be highly unlikely for the country legend. Instead, she prefers to let her music and her actions do the talking for her.
"I try to do my thing through my songs, through the way I accept people and the way I try to make a difference," she says.
She cited another reason for her lack of interest in politics: it just isn't in her wheelhouse.
"I'm not smart enough to be in politics, or maybe I'm too smart," she said. "Either way, I'm not qualified for that type of a job. But I'm pretty qualified to do what I do, which is to point people in the right direction, to write about it in songs or speak about things."
Although Parton doesn't often share her specific views on tangible issues, she often talks about her values, which includes loving everyone. She touched on that topic later in the interview when asked about LGBTQ+ issues.
"I try to leave my heart open. I try to see the 'God light' in every single person," she says. "I know we're supposed to love one another. We're not supposed to judge other people."
