Back on the Today Show in 2015, Dolly revealed that she had new music that she intended to release. The only downside for Parton's fans is that they will have to wait almost two decades to hear the new track titled "My Place in History. The song is being locked away until 2045. The year she would have turned 100 years old.

Dolly Parton Has Regrets About Her Secret Song

Parton did have one regret about the song. She raved about how good My Place in History was. And joked that the track was too good to be locked away.

"You have no idea how that has bothered me. I wanna go dig that up so bad ... it's a really good song! I don't know whose damn idea that was," she said during a 2022 appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show"

She echoed a similar sentiment during a sit-down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that same year.

"I have regretted that, because it was a really good song," she said of the secret song. "I'm serious! I keep wanting 'em to let me dig it up and put something else in it that's not as good. If any of you are around when they open that box, well, I hope you enjoy my song."

In a statement following her passing, reps for the country music star revealed that she passed away on Tuesday after a "brief battle with cancer."

A September 22 report from TMZ revealed that the actress tried to get treatment for the disease after her diagnosis. She traveled to Frankfurt, Germany, for "experimental" cancer treatment. A procedure that took "about a week."

She was 80 years old.
