Parton recently opened a truck stop of her own in Tennessee. It's the first of several planned for the country artist. Parton says that she is planning on expanding to more locations in the years to come. The project is close to the country singer's heart.
Parton says that she has spent years on the road. So opening a truck stop feels like a logical next step for the country singer, who has had many enterprises over the years. Parton spoke at the opening of the truck stop, via Whiskey Riff.
She said, "I have spent the bulk of my life on the road, and more specifically on a bus. All the years spent visiting greasy spoon cafes, truck stops, and roadside pit stops have given me an understanding of what traveler's desire on the road.
Dolly Parton Speaks Out
Parton added, "Whether you are driving a truck, a bus, or a car, you want a place that feels like home and recharges you for the rest of your journey. I believe we will fill a void out there on the highways, all while bringing the heart and soul of Tennessee."
However, Parton couldn't resist taking a subtle swipe at Buc-ee's. Although she didn't call out the popular gas station by name, she did mention their mascot. Surprisingly, Parton says that she doesn't see the major gas chain as a competitor. Parton boldly claims that she doesn't have to compete against anyone in the space.
She said, "I wanted to welcome all of you and say thank you for coming. We're very excited about our truck stop: the Tennessean Travel Stop... I'm sure some of you are wondering why I wanted a truck stop. Well, I couldn't leave it to beavers."
She also added, "I had to throw my scrawny little self in there. We're not trying to compete with anybody. We don't think we'll have to. We think we're going to have everything that you want or need."
