Dog Earns All The Treats After Saving Its Owner From Apartment Fire

On Friday, February 7, a Milwaukee woman named Charlette Day was cooking at her apartment when, all of a sudden, she noticed her dog, Teddy, acting oddly. To her surprise, it turns out that a fire had broken out in her building, so she immediately grabbed Teddy and escaped. Having lost everything in the fire, Day now credits her dog for saving her life.

According to WISN, around 11 a.m. on Friday, Teddy began to act strangely, something that Charlette Day quickly took notice. "He kept trying to get my attention," Day told the outlet. "He was barking, swatting me for attention."

And while dogs can be quite a treat to the eyes and ears with their occasional over-the-top energy, this was not it. Once Day paid attention to Teddy, she looked outside her living room window. Shocked, she saw how flames began engulfing the building she was in.

Without thinking twice, Day grabbed Teddy and ran outside. Both made it out alive. Her fiancé and their three kids also survived, but it is not clear if they were at the apartment at the time. However, the fire did end up taking the life of Day's kitten, a little fellow named Stormi. She just only arrived at Day's home on Christmas.

Despite her loss, Day is convinced that Teddy saved her life. Her story is yet another proof that dogs are man's best friends. Charlette Day and her family, however, now face the struggle of having to start from scratch, now that their apartment is long gone.

Starting Again

Kiarra Day, Charlette's daughter, picked her mother up following the fire on Friday. When she met her, she was shocked by the sad view of her mother without any belongings, without her cat, and without her apartment.

"I saw her out in the cold — no shoes, no jacket, and so I went in the house for her," Kiarra told WISN. "And it hurt me to see the house like that because I couldn't imagine my house being like that."

Kiarra went inside the now charred apartment and attempted to recover whatever item she could find. While there was nothing left, she did find her grandmother's urn. However, everything else was beyond salvageable.

Fortunately for the residents of the building that caught fire, everyone made it out safely. According to Charlette Day, a passerby alerted everyone once she saw the fire growing.

"There was a lady and her daughter walking by," Charlette said. "I believe she was the one who called the fire department and was pounding on the door to get everybody out. I know she lives nearby, but that lady is an angel."

Charlette Day certainly has a lot to be thankful for and owes her life to Teddy and that mysterious lady. Now, she is staying with her daughter, who has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help her mother and her family through this difficult time.

a very sad situation that, had there been legitimate interventions (mental health and medical), might have had better results.
