Jim Morrison Documentary Claims Singer Faked His Death
Before the End: Searching For Jim Morrison arrived on the streaming service in January. The 3-episode show explores the idea that the rock-and-roll legend didn't actually die in 1971 and has since been alive and well in New York.
It dives into the fishy circumstances surrounding the death, spearheaded by independent filmmaker Jeff Finn. The documentary also interviews those closest to the lead vocalist for the rock band The Doors.
During the trailer, Randall Jahnson, co-screenwriter for The Doors' 1991 docudrama, mentioned how strange the death was. "There's just something weird there," said Jahson. "All the details just don't quite jive like the nice, neat, romantic sort of bow that they like to put on it."
At only 27 years old, Morrison was found dead in an apartment bathtub on July 3, 1971. They deemed his cause of death to be from heart failure, despite performing no autopsy, as French law didn't require it. On top of that, the rockstar's burial was extremely private, leading to a myriad of conspiracy theories about the incident.
"27-year-olds don't typically suddenly die," said David Katz, Morrison's high school classmate. "I was puzzled by the mystery about it."
To add fuel to the conspiracy fire, Morrison died two years to the day after Brian Jones, Rolling Stones guitarist, died. It was also nine months after Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix died, all of whom passed at 27 years old. This gave way to the "27 club" conspiracy theory.
Documentary Theorizes Late Rock Star Is Alive In New York
But where is the musician supposedly now? According to Syracuse.com, the show alludes that the late singer is living in Syracuse, New York, working as a maintenance man. The documentary suggests that Morrison met someone from Syracuse named Frank and got ahold of his ID.
Two of Morrison's ex-girlfriends viewed Frank's picture and burst into tears, showing just how similar the two men looked. Frank had a nose scar in the same spot where Morrison had a mole, adding more proof to the theory. The documentary even interviewed Frank who allegedly gave ambiguous answers when questioned about his identity.
So could Frank really be the famed Jim Morrison pretending to be a handyman? Watching the documentary for yourself may give you better insight into the theory. Perhaps the man from Syracuse simply looks identical to Morrison and he's just a private man.
