Everyone knows that one annoying little thing when you're just trying to have a darn good sleep. Whether that be a really annoying loud beeping getting in the way of things (an alarm clock!), or someone just can't stop knocking something...
But one thing not very many people can say they've had ruin their dreams is a bat. No, we're serious! As reported by the New York Post, Dr. Krista Edelman was having a wonderful nap when she had a not-so-cute rude awakening.
The dream at least had a slightly cuter participant - she'd woken up thinking a small little mouse had been trying to get into her mouth. But it was a much more dangerous burrower - a bat.
"I reach up to my mouth," she recalled, "and then I touch something that is kind of slimy and a little hairy and cool,". Dr. Edelman, a gastroenterologist, appeared to know her animals, as she recalled "immediately" figuring out it was a bat.
"This bat was legitimately trying to burrow between my lips into my mouth, trying to get past my teeth," she explained. "I grabbed this bat and I threw it across the room and I screamed." To be fair, who wouldn't?
Of course, her husband, hearing all that screaming, came straight into the bedroom. He was brandishing a baseball bat. But, she didn't want to kill it...

The Doctor Feared the Bat Had Rabies
And she had a pretty good reason for it, too. "I knew we were supposed to try to cat this bat so it can actually be tested and see if there are rabies in its brain". That's some pretty calm and collected thinking, given the situation - I know I would be screaming and shaking and everything!
In any case, luckily, she didn't end up having rabies. Either way, she wanted to cover all her bases. "Because I had direct contact and hadn't previously been vaccinated against rabies, I went to the ER and started the rabies vaccine series and received immunoglobulin."
She also had a PSA for people who don't fancy bats in their mouths. "If you live in an older home, check those attics and chimneys! And if you wake up with a bat in the room... don't assume you're fine. It's worth getting medical advice right away!"
