The Dixie Chicks are one of the many musicians to perform a Prince song in honor of the late legendary musician. Pop icon and influential guitarist Prince tragically passed away on April 21 at the age of 57 from causes that are still unknown.
At a tour stop in Denmark on April 22nd, the Dixie Chicks surprised the crowd with an emotional cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U." They belted it out with Prince's signature 'Love Symbol' appropriately displayed on the big screen behind them. The stage was illuminated with purple rain that fell behind the band as the audience listened on.
"Nothing Compares 2 U" was made famous by Sinead O'Connor, but originally written by Prince. It was a worldwide success and the best-selling single of 1990. Check out the Dixie Chicks' rendition of the hit song below.
The Dixie Chicks weren't the only ones to sing that particular song in concert to honor the pop-icon. Chris Stapleton also covered "Nothing Compares 2 U" over the weekend at a tour stop in Berkeley, California. Little Big Town also gave a stirring tribute to Prince by performing "When Doves Cry" at the Adams Center in Missoula, Montana.
The Dixie Chicks are currently wrapping up the sold-out European leg of their MMXVI Tour. The trio will soon head back to the U.S., where they'll be performing throughout the summer and into the fall, with the last stop set for October 10th in Hollywood.
